He was predeceased by: his father Eyvind Hayes; his wife Jeanne Lou McHargue Hayes; and his siblings, Ottis Hayes, Lois Cummins and Mary Owens.

He is survived by: his siblings, Brenda Hayes, Regina Goforth, Janis Loudermilk (Johnny), Larry Hayes and Jeff Hayes (Morrissa). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
