He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell F. Wingate and Catherine D. Wingate; and his siblings, Linville Wingate and Ina Faye Wingate Toy. He is survived by: his wife Betty Sue Hall Wingate; his children, Jeffery Scott Wingate (Jan) of Mt. Sterling and Elizabeth Shelley Wingate of Mt. Sterling; and his brother D. C. Wingate (Louise) of Charleston. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
