He was predeceased by : his parents, Edna Abner and Kenneth Abner. He is survived by his wife, Marcella, of 51 years, : his sons, Matthew Abner (Heather), Brian Abner (Janice) and Arthur Abner Jr. (Ashley); and his siblings, Charles Abner and Jennate Moore. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
