He is survived by: his wife Nita; his sons, Joel David Cates (Kelli) of Paducah, KY and Charles "Luke" Cates (Katie) of Morganfield, KY; his grandchildren, Liam Joshua Cates and Cameron Lucas Cates; his sister Beverly Jean (Cates); and his nieces and nephews, Abby Paris, Amy Paris, John Paris (Sally) and Jessica Paris.
