He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Markwell and Maudie Belle Knipp Markwell; his wife Anna Belle Castle Markwell; his son Steven Markwell; and his siblings, Ray Markwell, Tracy Markwell, Willard Markwell, Haskell Markwell, Robey Markwell, Hazell Markwell, Beedie Jewell Markwell, Nola Thornsberry and Essie Risner.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Markwell (Michelle Wells) of Morehead and Ida Kaye Shropshire (Billy Coyle) of Morehead; and his grandchildren, Joshua Markwell, Jessanna Belle Markwell, Nathan Markwell, Cody Shropshire, Kenseth Shropshire, Brandon Sexton, Brittany Coyle, Matt Sexton and Desiree Lykins.
