He was predeceased by: his parents, Wesley Smith and Mayola Carmack Smith; his wife Connie Smith; his children, Jessie James Smith, Jimmy Ballard, Scotty Smith, Carl Edward Smith and Julie Gabbard; his grandchildren, Michael Gilbert, George Arnold Gabbard, Jr. and Jennifer Ann Smith; his great grandchild David Carnelious Coleman; and his siblings, Harvey Smith, Gene Smith, Bill Brown, Louise Brown and Audie Brown.
He is survived by: his children, Irene Hall (Boone) and Gail Gabbard (George); his daughter-in-law Mary Collett; his siblings, Danny Ray Smith, Rita Jackson (Bill), Gladys Owens (Don) and Linda Sue Johnston (Eddie); and his close friend James Epperson. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.
