He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Thomas and Edna Mae Barnes; his brothers, Dewey Ray Barnes and Willie Thomas Barnes; and the mother of his children Robin Barnes Day.
He is survived by: his close friend Marie Dixon; his children, James David Barnes, Jr. (Anita), Jason Barnes and Krystal Beth Branham; his grandchildren, James David Barnes, III (Lanie), Michael Barnes, Kristen Barnes and Alexis Barnes; his great grandchildren, Kaiden Barnes and Lyla James Hargraves; and his siblings, Hank Barnes (Edna), Alice Bush (Charles), Linda West, Polly Cole (Charles) and Wilma Hansen (Rick). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.
