She was predeceased by: her father Lester Gardner; her husband John Benjamin Mathis; her mother Mable Elizabeth Newman Gardner; her siblings, Essie Hamilton, Luther and Coy Gardner; and her son-in-law Gerald Whitis.
She is survived by: her children, Eva Whitis of Mayfield, Linda Wood (Donald) of Winterville, Georgia, Elizabeth Mathis of Melber, John Mathis (Becky) of Melber and Neal Mathis (Karen) of Melber. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; her 13 great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
