He was predeceased by: his parents, George Root and Jeanie Harris Root; and his siblings, Marshall Root, Hobert Myres, Alta Mae Root Smith, Bessie Root Smith, Gilbert Root, Lillie Mae Root Thomas, Robert Root and Mary Dolly Root.
He is survived by: his wife Opal Bowling Root; his children, James Matthew Root (Sandra), Terry Roberts (Victoria), Samuel Roberts (Katina) and Sharon Roberts Duncan (Bill); and his siblings, Lois Root Gray and Jeff Root. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
