He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hampton and Ranie Hampton; his son Phillip Barry Hampton; and his siblings, Burnette Hampton, Robert Hampton, Otis Hampton, Alan Hampton, Wayne Hampton, Steve Hampton, Albert Hampton, Tina, Effie, Topsy and Maxine.

He is survived by: his wife Ruby Hampton; his children, Marty Hampton and Michelle Ann Bright; and his brother Henry Clay Hampton. He is also survived by 4 grandsons, 3 great grandsons.
