He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Benns and Flora Benns; and his brother James C. Benns. He is survived by: his wife Susan Stricker; his sons, Richard E. Benns II, Dr. Matthew Benns (Tiffany Justice) and Alexander J. Benns; his grandchildren, Sebastian, Eleanor and Madison Benns; and his brother Edward J. Benns (Lynne).
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home (10600 Taylorsville Rd, Jeffersontown, KY 40299). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Michael Catholic Church (3705 Stone Lakes Dr, Louisville, KY 40299). A burial was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at the Calvary Cemetery (1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville, KY 40205).
