It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Bernard Backert of Louisville, Kentucky, who passed away on November 8, 2023, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his brother Jimmy Backert. He is survived by: his friend Bill Wilson; his wife Becky; his daughters, Gina Lankswert (Pat), Janet Spencer (Jeff) and Ashley Kandle (Kirk); his grandchildren, Hannah Rohr (Zach), Nicholas Lankswert, Lauren Spencer and Addison Spencer; his siblings, Billy Backert (Betty), Anna Marie Carrico (Paul), Mike Backert (Jane), Dorothy Burch (Phil), Barbie Mattern (Steve), John Backert (Jann) and Mary Morison; his former wife Jane Morgan; and his pets, Bailey, Baxter and Figaro.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus Health, Springdale Presbyterian Church or Bellarmine University.
