He was predeceased by: his parents, Millard Maxwell and Gladys Wellman Fugitt; his wife Deloris Fugitt; his brother Melvin Scisco Fugitt; his stepson Rex Fields; and his brother-in-law Leo Holley.
He is survived by: his children, John Harvey Fugitt, Jr. (Mackenzie), Amanda McCarty (Anthony) and Angie Hicks (Rocky); his siblings, Millard "Mack" Fugitt, Jr. (Sandy), David Fugitt (Barbara), Phillip Fugitt, Allen Fugitt, Mary Roberts (Jack), Shirley Newsome (James), Leona Nagel (Kenny), Roberta Newsome, Joy Holley and Margaret Hall; and his stepdaughters, Pam Burton (Bobby) and Teresa Brown. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
