He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Sammons and Emma Thompson Sammons; his nephew Charles Edward Sammons II; and his brother-in-law Neil Hurley. He is survived by: his wife Gail Sammons (Porter); his son Joshua David Sammons of Kenova; and his siblings, Gerald Rosser (Geraldine) of Prichard, Joann Sammons Hurley of Huntington, WV, Donald Sammons (Gloria) of Las Vegas, Charles Sammons (Judy) of Crum and Karen Hensley (Steve) of Columbus, Ohio.. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Over the years, Eugene enjoyed supporting Cabwaylingo Forest Foundation and their activities.
