He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Ray and Evalena Short (Thompson); his wife Betty Jo Short (Hicks); and his siblings, Kermit Gene Short and Helen Damron.

He is survived by: his stepdaughter Tammy Pack; and his siblings, Billy R. Short (Brenda) and Laura F. Fyffe (Charles). He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
