He is survived by: his daughters, Fannie Cantrell and Sabrina Sturgell; his stepchildren, Eva Haney and John L. Polk III; and his brothers, Sherman, Charles, Jennings, Harold and Ivan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
