She was predeceased by: her husband David Owen Smith; her parents, Roscoe Herron and Lucille Harris Herron; her sister Laura Cox Sturgill; and her niece Carrie Cox.

She is survived by: her daughter Ivey Smith-Mills (Michael) of London, KY; and her grandchildren, Michael Mills, Jayden Smith and Conley Mills.

In lieu of flowers, Marilyn requested that donations be made to the New Salem Baptist Church.
