He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Merritt and Gladys Shaw Merritt; his children, Betty Lou Merritt and David Merritt; and his siblings, Ruth Merritt, Don, Rodger, Herbie, Jerry, Norman and Danny Merritt.
He is survived by: his spouse Cleda Stapleton; his children, Patricia Jenkins (Chris) of Indianapolis, IN, Lee Roy Merritt of London, KY and Brenda Merritt of Corbin, KY; and his siblings, Joyce Powell, Linda Dungan of Columbus, Shirley Crawford, Mary Blair, Bonnie Fleener of Bedford, IN, Benjamin Merritt and Phillip Merritt of Greenfield. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren.
