He was predeceased by: his parents, William Walter Gilford and Lois Bullard Gilford; his wife Stella Mae Sams Gilford; his son David Gilford; and his siblings, Virginia Gilford Mason and William "Buddy" Gilford.

He is survived by: his children, Michael Gilford (Mari) of Pineville, Louisiana, Sharon Gilford of Lexington and Sandra Gilford (Andy Mathews) of Orlando; and his grandsons, Mark William Gilford and Steven Paul Gilford.
