He is survived by: his parent Della Nickell Elam; his children, Mark Elam (Michele) and Marta Elam Dorton; his grandchildren, Annie Littrell (Harold), Christopher Elam and Aaron Dorton; his great grandchild Ella Rose Littrell; and his siblings, Helen Barnett and Roy Elam.
