He was predeceased by : his parents, Sam Wheeler and Etta Wheeler; and his sister Elizabeth Copley. He is survived by : his wife Lucy Clay Wheeler; his children, William Kendall Wheeler, Jr. (Tammy), Stuart Wheeler (Karen), Margaret Meredith (Kevin) and Claire Lewis (Darrell); and his nieces, Chazell Wilson, Charlene Slates and Patrice Mugg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
