He was predeceased by: his wife Loretta Faye Gay; his parents, Robert K. Gay and Virginia Jessee Gay; and his sisters, Julia Florence (W. C.) and Martha Gill.
He is survived by: his children, Robert E. Gay, Jr. (Bonnie) and Michelle Gay; his grandchildren, Whitney Shaw (Chris) and Spenser Gay; his great grandchildren, Andrea Shaw, Braxton Gay and Brett Shaw; and his brother Raymond Gay (Frankie). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
