He was predeceased by: his parents, Estill Newsome and Waneta Newsome (Pride); and his son Christopher Michael Newsome. He is survived by: his wife Maureen Newsome (Patton); his children, Robert Newsome (Denise) and Noreen Marcum; his sister Mary Dipalo; and his grandchildren, Dalton Wayne Newsome, Dallyn Nicole Newsome, Michael Edward Marcum, Morgan Danielle Newsome, Mason Kyle Gardner and Reagan McKenna Cantrell.

In addition to flowers and in honor of his legacy, the family would like memorial donations directed to Southern Hills United Methodist Back Pack Ministry, 2356 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40503 or any local homeless shelter.

“I am deeply sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Yes I knew him at Martin High School as "Mike, I remember that old Fiat that he drove with the gear shift on the column. I remember it as a 5 or 6 forward gears which was a bit unusual in those days. We had fun running around on a quarters worth of gas. In that old Fiat that meant 40 miles of so. My thoughts will be with the family as they work through the days ahead. Virgil Lance Flannery”
