She was predeceased by: her parents, Mattie L. Epps and Joe Mayes; her husband Joseph B. Mitchell; her children, John Marshall Mayes and Margaret Mayes Pitteard; and her siblings, Sue Annabelle Mayes, William "Billy Joe" Mayes, James Donald Mayes, Anthony Wayne Mayes and Joe Sam Mayes.
She is survived by: her daughter Mary Roberta Mayes of Lexington; her stepson Robert Mitchell of St. Louis, MO; her grandchildren, JaMaar Mayes of Lexington, LaTasha Pitteard of Louisville, Charles Pitteard of Louisville, Jarrica Mayes of Lexington and Roslyn Pitteard of Louisville; her sisters, Brenda Mayes Cooke of Lexington and Patricia Mayes of Lexington; and her close friends, Mary Margaret Brown, Karen and David Baumgartner. She is also survived by two aunts; three nieces; and a host great-nieces, great- nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.
