She was predeceased by: her parents, Lenore Hopkins and Alfred "Hoppy" Hopkins; and her brother William Hopkins. She is survived by: her husband Robert Shimp; her brother Don; her children, Gregg (Nena), Cecily Fassler (Doug) and Jennifer Shimp-Bowerman (Josh); her grandchildren, Geoffrey (Cierra), Matt Shimp (Nicole), Hannah, William Fassler and Emily Bowerman; and her great grandchildren, Gavin, Emmett and Grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Kentucky Wesleyan College or the Captain John Waller Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (815 Euclid Ave., Lexington KY 40502).
