He was predeceased by: his parents, Wardy Whetsell and Delphia Cook Whetsell; his wife Bonnie J. Whetsell; his sons, David Smith and Douglas Smith; his granddaughter Jessica Kiser; and his siblings, James Whetsell and Naomi Osborne.
He is survived by: his daughter Tammy Morris of Verona, VA; his grandchildren, Erik Smith, Shannon Valle, Casey Smith, Christopher Smith, Justin Smith, Jasper Morris, Matthew, Jaclyn Morris and Gabrielle Morris; his nieces, Madeline Rolfes and Betty Millard; and his nephew Jimmy.
