He is survived by: his wife Paula Thurman Whitmer; his children, Karen Whitmer Cole (Don) and Brian D. Whitmer (Megan); his grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, Nathan Irving, Lauren and Ella Whitmer; and his nephews, Marc (Leah), Eric and Karl Bates (Annette).
