He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy Helen Watts; and his parents, Linville Watts and Audrey Watts. He is survived by: his children, John R. Watts, II and Kimberly Robinson (Scott); his grandchildren, Lauren Robinson and Arin Robinson; his siblings, Lois Conrad, Debbie Green, Jackie McMillian, Gary "Kippy" Watts, Melvin "Randy" Watts and Teresa Swift; and his sister-in-law Sara Jones. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lexington Humane Society.
