He was predeceased by: his wife Bonnie Insko Flanary; his parents, Sallie Flanary and John Flanary Sr.; and his son Michael David Flanary. He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Janice Flanary; his children, Kathy Boone (Stanley) of Leitchfield, KY and Elkanah "Kane" Flanary (Manual); his grandchildren, Jason Flanary (Kayla), John Robert Flanary, Jessica Garlock (Steve), Johnathan Boone (Amanda), Jacob Boone (Savannah), McKenna Flanary and Adleigh Flanary; and his great grandchildren, Riley, Xavier, Liam Boone, Stevie, James, Amelia Garlock, Briggston, Latham Flanary and Scarlette Boone.
