He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Cable and Bessie Cable (Estep); his children, Phillip Cable and Onna Jones; his granddaughter Selena Cable; and his siblings, Elizabeth, Bertha, Dixie, Hoover, Cory, Jessie, Charlie and John.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Cable; his children-in-law, Pat Cable and Richard Jones; his grandchildren, Brian Cable, Sarah Moore (Jonathan) and Stuart Jones (Miranda); his great grandchildren, Jayden and Katherine; his adoptive son Richard Penny; and his siblings, Dave, Jettie Lee, Lexie, Goldie and Jane. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

“Joe Cable was a great family friend during most of my life. We enjoyed visiting his home where Joe demonstrated great talent for growing things that produced food, fruit and ornamental beauty. Joe seemed to have knowledge on most every subject, but his gift was understanding the laws of chemistry. Joe helped my son was having trouble with chemistry in school. With that help my son took nearly enough college classes to major in chemistry, instead of Veterinary Medicine. Joe is already missed!”
