He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Simpson and Katie W. Simpson; his niece Katie Shurts; and his great-niece Alexis Shurts. He is survived by: his wife Sheila Z. Simpson of Lexington, KY; his stepson Greg Zornes; his siblings, Wanda Hollenbeck of Lewisville, TX and Willam C. Simpson Jr. of Nicholasville, KY; his nephews, Sean Simpson (Heather), Justin Simpson (Jacquie) and Joshua Simpson (Kari); and his niece Rhiannon Minke (Kevin).
After working initially on the mechanisms underlying the sensation of pain with Kathy Albers, Jim worked with Steve Estus on Alzheimer's disease for over twenty years.
