He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayton Martin and Ila Mae Rankin Martin; his brothers, William Martin, Thomas Martin and John Martin; and his sister-in-law Mae Goldy Martin.

He is survived by: his wife Ada Petot Martin; his children, James David Martin (Marilyn) of Hickory, NC, Anne Clayton Martin of Nashville, TN and Sarah Leslie Martin of Missoula, MT; his grandchildren, Hanna Stewart Martin, Charlotte Rose Martin, Richard Clayton Abernathy and Ava Elaine Erickson; his sister Mary Anne Loy (Barry) of Columbia, KY; and his granddaughter Lisa Crump (Hanna) of Lexington, KY.. He is also survived by five children.
