He is survived by: his wife Lynn Stakelin Bates; his children, Christopher Gene Bates (Allison) and Kelly Lee Mullins (Michael) of Lexington; his siblings, Beulah Brumlow (Neil), Billy Ray Bates (Joyce) and Karen Elaine Bates; and his grandchildren, Dalton Bates and Madison Bates. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins.
