He is survived by: his children, John Willmott Backer, Jr. (Ashley) of Lexington, KY, Lucy Kendrick Cox (Barry) of Campbellsville, KY and Irene Emery Fisher (Chuck) of Chattanooga, TN; his brother Jesse Backer (Julie) of Charlotte, NC.; and his grandchildren, Ann Frances Killebrew, Katherine Backer, Julia Fisher, Charles Cox, Cate Fisher and John "Jack" Backer, III.
