He was predeceased by: his brother Earl Gaines. He is survived by: his spouse Erie Clay Logdon Gaines; his daughters, Sharon Richert (Bryan) and Teresa Sutherland; his grandchildren, Daniel Richert, Emily McBride, Lauren Sutherland, Clay Sutherland and Hannah Sutherland; and his brother Donald Gaines (Peggy).

In Lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 2312 Alexandria Dr, Lexington, KY 40504.
