He was predeceased by: his parents, Rene Carteyn and Lillian Carteyn (Cooley); and his former wife Della Carteyn. He is survived by: his wife Juanita Johnson; and his stepchildren, Jeffery Nichols (Sharon) and Debbie Beck (Jerry).
Due to the ongoing pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Kentucky.
