He was predeceased by: his son Jeremy R. Lytle; and his sisters, Hilda Mae Jobe and Maxine Ann Bassett. He is survived by: his wife Alice Lytle; his sons, James R. Lytle, Jr. of Nashville and Joshua R. Lytle (Amanda) of Lewisport; his grandsons, Jonathan Lytle and Isaac Lytle; and his brother Randall Hugo Lytle, Sr. of Beaver Dam.
