He was predeceased by: his parents, George Self and Nora Burkhead Self; his son Dale Self; his grandson Ryan Dale Stinson; and his sisters, Mary Watkins, Dorothy Raymer, Georgie Portman and Katherine Self.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma Milliner Self of Tar Hill; his daughters, Tammy Self Langdon (Mike) of Leitchfield and Mimi Self Stinson (Roger) of Leitchfield; his daughter-in-law Debbie Howard Self of Leitchfield; his grandchildren, Brad Stinson (Lizabeth), Sara Cooper (Chad), Amy Hatfield and Shannon Roberts; his great grandchildren, Blake Aubrey (Vanda), Bailey Swift (Holly), Emma Kate Cooper and Eli Cooper; and his great great grandchildren, Kenley, Anthony, Hollis, Braxton and Gracie.
