He was predeceased by: his parents, William Benjamin and Sadie Marie Cole (Powell); and his sister Patsy Tipton (Carl). He is survived by: his friends, Henry Tingle and Donnie Bowman; his sisters, Janice Funk and Vicki Cole; his nephew Jonathan Roberts (Susan); his niece Shawna Cassidy; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tristan Roberts, ABigail Roberts, Benjamin Meffert and Taylor Cassidy (Rosie); and his nephew Theo.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a Veterans' Organization in Tommy's name.
