He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Messer and Nannie Holland Messer; his wife Annie Combs Messer; and his siblings, Bert Messer, Carew Messer, Adam Messer, Eli Messer, Ernest Messer, Callie Collins, Dora Minton, Della Messer and Sally Messer.
He is survived by: his daughters, Matilda Gibson (Robert) and Hilda Everidge (Jimmy); his siblings, Willie Messer, Benton Messer and Racheal Cornett; his grandchildren, Chris (Samantha), Andrew (Leann), Ashley (Brandon), Cody and Dustin; and his great grandchild Wynter.
