He was predeceased by: his parents, Loren Ellis and Flora Jean Sullivan; his sister Shelly Mobley; and his brother-in-law Charles Dodge Mobley. He is survived by: his children, Sean Ellis Hill (Deana) of Omaha, Nebraska, Shannon Michelle Moore (Samuel) of Keavy and Sonja Renee Gay (Bryan) of Keavy; and his sister Nancy Phelps (Gary) of Lexington. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
