He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Hubert and Edna Broyles McCarter; his wife Jackie Cecilia Davis McCarter; his son Christopher Daniel McCarter; and his siblings, Jerry McCarter, Johnny McCarter and Becky McCarter.

He is survived by: his daughters, Lisa Peyton of Danville and Dana Johnson of Frankfort; his granddaughters, Brittany Wash of Perryville, Victoria Peyton of Danville and Katie Bertram (Brandon) of Monticello; his great grandchild Jeb Parker McDaniel; and his siblings, Jan Spray of Mount Juliet, Judy Wurtman (Paul) of Pace, Sue Whitworth of La Grange, Nancye Combs of Louisville, William McCarter (Lynne) of Tennessee and Roger McCarter of Mount Juliet, Tennessee..
