He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Edward and Dorothy Susan Messer Adams. He is survived by: his wife Alma Louise Adams; his children, Denise Adams Ynclan, Rhonda Spears (Ray), Mary Breeze, Amy Day (Jimmy), Jamie Davis (Jimmy), Chuck Callahan, Douglas Adams Jr. and John Ross; and his siblings, Jim Adams (Elizabeth), Mary Adams and Shelby Jean "Jeannie" Keaton (Mack). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer's Association and Danville/Boyle County Humane Society.
