He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret E. Thornton; his parents, Clyde Thornton and Martha Thornton; and his siblings, Bobby, Charles, Ronnie Thornton, Helen Sunderland and Pat Neal.
He is survived by: his children, John Thornton, Jr. (Rebecca), Matthew Thornton and Jennifer Hughes; his siblings, Roy Thornton and Ella Long; his grandson Tyler Thornton; and his great grandchild Samara Watts. He is also survived by grandchildren, extended family and friends.
