He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Alby and Gladys Ethel Ford Bates; his stepson David Kinman; and his brother Paul Bates. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Bates; his son Alan Bates (Sue) of Island; his stepdaughters, Robin Stratton (Tommy) of Wyman and Toni Ray (Bryan) of Sacramento; and his siblings, Dan Bates (Jan) of Council Bluff, Eddie Bates (Darlene) of Neola, Iowa, Sharon Grosse (Tom) of Florida and Judy Woods (Steve) of Omaha, Nebraska.. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
