He was predeceased by: his former wife Loretta Garland; his parents, Paul Garland and Ellie Garland; his granddaughter Lacey Taylor; and his siblings, Ray Garland and Ruth Griffith.
He is survived by: his wife Anita Garland; his children, Erik Garland (Hidey) and Sonja Taylor (Jeff Byrum); his stepchildren, Craig Hampton (Tammy), Eric Hampton (Sarah) and Susan Shirley (Stephen); his sister Myra Thompson; and his close friend Rick Taylor. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
