He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Boyd and Agnes Irene Wheeler Shepherd; and his brothers, Douglas Shepherd, Clyde Shepherd and Harold "Red" Shepherd.
He is survived by: his sister Carolyn Harris; his daughter Crystal Murphy (Aaron); his pets, Stephanie Shepherd (Nick) and Branch; his brother Steve Shepherd of Rutherfordton; and his grandchildren, Tristen, Kyleigh, Colton, McKenzie and Gatlin.
