He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellwood James Kern, Sr. and Evelyn Kern (Shave); his wife Carol Johnson Kern; and his daughter Kimberly Braboy. He is survived by: his daughter Kelly Cumbee (Carson) of Apex, NC; his son-in-law Don Braboy of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren, Hannah, Allison, Zoe, Audrey, Foster, Elias, Josiah, Parker and Charlotte; his great grandchildren, Evelyn, Lewis and Van; and his siblings, Lynn, Brenda, Danny, Frank and Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that he generously supported during his lifetime.
