He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth R Sturges and John R Sturges; his brother Jack Sturges; and his daughter Susan Sturges. He is survived by: his children, David L. Sturges, Jr. of Hopkinsville, KY, Bill Sturges (Carolyn) of Owensboro, KY and Virginia Lynn Sturges Albracht of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren, James Albracht, Dr. Stephanie Albracht-Layne (Brent), Samuel Sturges and Katie Sturges; his great grandchild Bronson Layne; and his pet MIlo.
He also served on the Hopkinsville Economic Council, the Industrial Foundation, Hopkinsville City Council , the Executive Board of the Hopkinsville Republican Party, Jennie Stuart Board of Trustees, and the Board of Pennyroyal Hospice.
