He is survived by: his wife Yvonne Hunter McDowell; his children, Amanda Crider of Louisville, Denise Lawless (Kelly) of Hodgenville, David McDowell (Nicole) of Jacksonville, FL and Alan McDowell (Kim) of Clarksville, TN; his daughter-in-law Susan McDowell of Elizabethtown; and his brothers, Jimmie McDowell (Liane) of Hodgenville and Mike Howell (Chris) of Hodgenville. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
